Prepping For Fall

Fall Car Care

Fall is right around the corner. Can you believe it? Although Tennessee may not have the fall weather any time soon, it never hurts to be prepared. Fall is one of the best seasons to check up on all of your automotive maintenance. This gives you the opportunity to be more than prepared for the following harsher season. And living here, we all know how fast the weather can change. Let us help you prepare!

Car Care Checklist

What are some of the items that are most important during this season?

  1. Oil Change

An oil change should be taken care of every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, sometimes even 7,000. Oil plays a big role in keeping the engine running smoothly. Letting your oil run down to the last drop can cause major damage.

  1. Tires

As weather changes, tire pressure fluctuates. Tire pressure is important but tire tread should also be a priority. With fall showers and the possibility of snow, you are going to want to make sure your tires can handle it all.

  1. Battery

Harsh weather can kill a battery. You want to make sure all connections are tight and terminals are free of corrosion. Have your battery checked to determine the life span.

  1. Wiper Blades

Rain and eventually snow can wear down your windshield wipers. They should be able to completely clear the windshield with each swipe. Always keep windshield washer reservoir full.

Emergency Kit

Have you switched your summer kit to a fall kit? There are a few main items to keep in your vehicle at all times in case of a break down.

  • Water bottles
  • Energy bars
  • Flashlight
  • Jumper cables
  • First aid kit

For fall and winter seasons you may want to consider a few more items.

  • Blanket
  • Kitty litter (to help gain traction if it snows)
  • Extra warm clothes
  • Ice scraper
  • Hand and foot warmers

Depending on where you live, who often rides with you, there are many more items that can be added to your emergency kit. It’s best to keep these items stored in a tote or backpack to keep readily available for any emergency.
